When working in InDesign, users sometimes want to open up a placed image or Illustrator file for editing. Users can do this by using the native Edit Original option from the InDesign links panel. Users can work in Photoshop or Illustrator and use the Save command to update the local file, and see their changes in InDesign. When complete, choose Finish Edit Original from the MediaValet Connector panel in Photoshop or Illustrator to save, close, upload the file to Box and restore the URL link in InDesign.
Working with Connector in Photoshop and Illustrator
After installing MediaValet Connector, you'll find the same extension in Photoshop and Illustrator. If you wish to edit an existing file on your MediaValet account, Drag and Drop your asset like you would in InDesign. A copy of the file will be saved locally to the mediavalet_connector_files folder in your Documents folder, and then opened in your Adobe app. Currently, you cannot drag and drop from the extension panel to place a asset as a new layer. Make your edits in Photoshop or Illustrator and save. If you want to upload a new version from MediaValet Connector, save the file with a new name, and choose Upload from the flyout menu. Then just navigate to where you saved the file, and click Okay. You can upload any supported file types to MediaValet this way.
Since MediaValet Connector requires network access to MediaValet and the Silicon Publishing licensing server, there are certain network requirements to consider. You may find that working from home, where there is not proxy or firewall, you can use MediaValet Connector without a problem, but at work you run into errors when trying to activate or use it.
You can configure your proxy settings in the SC.properties file located in
This file can be edited with a basic text editor and is documented with definitions of each property. Properties should be formatted with key=value syntax, e.g. sc.http.proxy_server=proxyserver.com
If your company has a firewall, you will need to be sure to whitelist the Silicon Publishing licensing server. The url to whitelist is https://licensing.siliconpublishing.com.
